A local Awami League leader, who was critically injured in an attack by unidentified assailants in Rangunia upazila of Chattogram, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment on Wednesday.
The deceased, Nurul Islam Talukder, 70, son of Innal Amin Talukder of Mirrekhil village, was a former president of the Ward-1 unit of Rangunia Awami League, said ATM Shifatul Mazdar, officer-in-charge of South Rangunia Police Station.

Local UP Chairman Sheikh Farid Uddin Chowdhury said Talukder was at his shop in Mirerkhil Bazar around 5:30 pm on Tuesday when a group of attackers suddenly hacked him, leaving him seriously injured.
Locals rushed him to the Upazila Health Complex before transferring him to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, where he died around 9:30 am on Wednesday.
