The local Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) says it is optimistic about boro cultivation on 46,800 hectares of land this season to meet a production goal of 2,16,526 metric tonnes.
DAE says the local variety of boro will be cultivated on 46,150 hectares while the hybrid variety will be sown on 650 hectares.
According to the district office of DAE, 11,990 hectares will be brought under boro cultivation in the Sadar upazila, 7,930 hectares in Shibganj, 14,560 hectares in Gomostapur, 6,885 hectares in Nachol and 5,435 hectares in Bholahat upazila.
DAE Deputy Director Manjurul Huda said farmers have so far prepared seedbeds on 3,115 hectares.
Boro cultivation will start from the last week of December.
“There’s no shortage of seed and fertiliser,” Huda said. “We hope the production target will be met.”
