Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested eight alleged members of an organized motorcycle thieves' gang by conducting special drives in different places of the capital Dhaka and Comilla district.
The detectives also recovered 17 stolen motorcycles of different brands from their possession during the simultaneous drives.
The arrested gangsters were identified as Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Md Rubel, Md. Sagar Mia alias Bhsani, Md. Babu, Md. Afzal Hossain, Md. Rashedul Islam alias Russel, Md. Faruk Hossain and Md. Helal Hossain.

Sources at the DB said, the DB (Lalbagh Division) had information that some members of a vehicle thieves' gang were gathered at Madhubagh area of Hatirjheel to buy and sell stolen motorcycles. Based on the information, a special DB team carried out a drive on the location at around 5:45 pm on June 8 and arrested Abul Kalam, Rubel, Sagar, Babu, Afzal and Rashedul.
Five stolen motorcycles were recovered from their possessions during the time, said Assistant Commissioner (DB-Lalbagh Division) Madhusudan Das.
Then based on information extracted from the arrestees, the detectives conducted simultaneous drives and arrested Farooq and Helal from Muzaffarganj area of Comilla district. This time they recovered 12 more stolen motorcycles from their possession, he said.

During the preliminary interrogation, the arrested gangsters confessed that they are members of a syndicate trading in stolen motorcycles. They took the stolen motorcycles by driving themselves to Hajiganj and Shahrasti areas of Chandpur district. Later, the arrested Farooq, the leader of the gang, changed the shape of the stolen motorcycles and then sold them on in different areas of Chandpur, Noakhali and Comilla districts.
All eight were shown arrested in a case filed with Hatirjheel police station.
