Police have arrested a dealer with 300kg OMS rice meant for sale to the poor at Tk 10 per kg under a government programme.
Mozdar Rahman was arrested from Podum Shahar village Saghata upazila on Monday.
Enayet Kabir, in-charge of Bonarpara Police Station, said the dealer had kept the rice at his warehouse to sell it in the black market.
After being informed by locals, police led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohiuddin Jahangir raided the warehouse and seized the rice.
The government started the sale of rice at special price for the poor so that they can survive during the ongoing holiday to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
All non-essential services have been shut and economic activities have come to almost a halt, dealing a heavy blow to the low-income group who live from hand to mouth.
