Mamunur Rashid, Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal of Feni, pronounced the verdict.
After the announcement of the verdict, Gias Uddin Nannu, lawyer of the accused, informed that they will file their petition with the High Court within a week.
Judge Mamunur Rashid pronounced the verdict in the crowded court on Thursday, 6 months 13 days after the death of Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
The verdict was pronounced in presence of the 16 convicts. Besides, order was also given that each of the convicts will have to pay Tk 1 lakh as fine.
On April 6, Nusrat Jahan Rafi, an aleem examinee of Sonagazi Madrasa in Feni, was set on fire on the roof, allegedly by people loyal to its principal Sirajuddoula whom she had accused of sexually harassing her, landing him in jail.
She succumbed to her injuries four days later at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
A case was filed with Sonagazi Police Station on April 8. Police pressed charges in the court against 16 people on May 29.
