Analysing recent data, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Azaz on Saturday said that the number of dengue cases and deaths both declined compared to last year.

“However, even one death from dengue is unacceptable, " he said.

The DNCC Administrator came up with the remarks while briefing reporters on the current dengue situation and control measures at DNCC headquarters in the city’s Gulshan on Sunday.

During the briefing, he also said that despite limited manpower, the DNCC is striving to provide the best possible service.

Azaz said that collective awareness and coordinated efforts among the public and service institutions can make dengue control possible. 

“At the beginning of this year’s monsoon, we held meetings with experts and implemented their recommendations throughout the year,” he added.

The DNCC administrator further said, “According to international standards, 2.3 workers are required per thousand people to protect public health, but we have only one worker for every 11,000 people — which is far below the requirement.”

He also informed that, based on expert advice, seven inspectors have been appointed to strengthen field-level activities across DNCC areas.

DNCC Acting Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Asaduzzaman, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury, entomologist Professor Md. Rashedul Islam, and other representatives from relevant agencies and departments were present at the event.
