Forty-three more dengue patients were admitted to Chapainawabganj 250-bed District Hospital in the past 24 hours till Wednesday morning while a woman and a child died at the hospital.
The deceased were Ferdousi Khatun, 30, wife of Ariful Islam of Shibtala Chandlai area in the district town, and Mahabbat Ali, 13, son of Monirul Islam of Arambagh area.
The hospital authorities said the woman had tested positive for dengue, while the old boy had not undergone a dengue test, although he had several symptoms of the disease.
The two died between around 4:00am and 4:30am on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Dr Mahbub Hasan, resident medical officer of the hospital, said Ferdousi was admitted to the hospital around 11:00am on Tuesday and later tested positive for dengue.
Mahabbat was admitted around 11:00pm on Tuesday with high fever, body aches and other dengue-like symptoms, he said.
However, the child was not confirmed as a dengue patient as no positive dengue test result was available, the RMO said.
Hospital authorities said 43 dengue patients were admitted to the hospital over the last 24 hours, taking the number of dengue patients currently receiving treatment there to more than 100.
