Four more deaths from dengue were reported in the 24 hours leading up to Sunday morning, as Bangladesh continues to grapple with a surge in infections during the peak season.
With the latest fatalities, the total number of deaths from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh has risen to 192 this year, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
All four of the new deaths were reported in Dhaka city—two in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and two in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
During this period, 845 more patients were hospitalised with viral fever, bringing the total number of cases to 46,051 so far this year.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), new cases were reported as follows: 166 in Barishal Division (outside city corporation), 91 in Chattogram Division (outside city corporation), 164 in Dhaka Division (outside city corporation), 97 in Dhaka North City Corporation, 112 in Dhaka South City Corporation, 37 in Mymensingh Division (outside city corporation), 101 in Khulna Division (outside city corporation), 54 in Rajshahi Division (outside city corporation), 17 in Rangpur Division (outside city corporation), and 6 in Sylhet Division (outside city corporation).
Currently, 746 patients are receiving treatment in Dhaka, while a total of 2,230 patients are undergoing treatment at various hospitals across the country.
The report also said that 64 percent of the newly infected patients were men, while 36 percent were women.
Last year, dengue claimed the lives of 575 people.
The DGHS recorded 101,214 dengue cases and 100,040 recoveries during the same period.
