The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Traffic Division on Tuesday launched a special drive to relocate buses remaining idle for long periods at Mohakhali Bus Terminal to a temporary bus depot in Purbachal.

The initiative aims to ease traffic congestion around the terminal, restore discipline on the roads and ensure smooth movement of passengers.

DMP Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Md Anisur Rahman, who was present during the drive, said buses kept at the terminal for long periods, including those waiting for hours before starting their next trips, were being relocated to the temporary depot in Purbachal in phases.

“Already, a designated number of vehicles have been removed. The remaining vehicles will also be relocated gradually,” he said.

“The main objective of this drive is to restore discipline in the terminal area and ensure smooth movement of passengers. Necessary facilities have been arranged at the temporary depot in Purbachal. We seek cooperation from all bus owners and drivers,” Anisur said.

The DMP Traffic Division said adequate police personnel were deployed during the drive to control traffic and maintain law and order.

Bus owners and drivers were also requested to remove waiting buses from Mohakhali terminal and keep them at the Purbachal depot as instructed.

The Traffic Division said such initiatives will continue to ease traffic congestion and improve discipline in public transport management.
