Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan on Tuesday inaugurated the road and drainage development project stretching from Mirpur-10 to Talatola.
The project is being implemented under the IDRISP (Improvement of Damaged Road Infrastructure in Zones 2 and 4 and Service Packages in Zone 5) programme to repair and upgrade damaged roads and associated infrastructure.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at Mirpur-10 Fulpatti, the DNCC administrator said the project, covering approximately four kilometers of road along with drainage construction on both sides, would significantly reduce long-standing waterlogging problems in the area. He added that the works are scheduled to be completed by October 31, 2026, and will remain on track barring any major natural disasters.
Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan also urged local residents to cooperate in keeping footpaths and roads free from illegal encroachment and unauthorized shops once the project is completed. He emphasized that project planning has focused on avoiding repeated digging and wastage of funds on the same road, with daily monitoring to ensure smooth implementation.
The DNCC administrator expressed hope that the project would alleviate waterlogging along Begum Rokeya Sarani during rains and improve commuting convenience for residents.
The inauguration was also attended by DNCC Chief Engineer Brigadier General Syed Rakibul Hasan, Project Director Khandakar Mahbub Alam, relevant regional executive officers, executive engineers, and representatives from political and social organizations.
