Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) fined five government and private organisations, including Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Resources Corporation (Petrobangla), Tk 5 lakh each (total Tk 25 lakh) for finding Aedes mosquito larvae in the basement of those establishments on Monday.
Rest four other establishments are -- the basements of Jahangir Tower, Jamuna Oil under construction building, Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), and Bangladesh Textile Mills Corporation.
Presence of Aedes mosquito larvaes were detected during a drive by a mobile court of the DNCC in presence of its Mayor Atiqul Islam in Karwan Bazar area.

Zonal Executive Officer and Executive Magistrate Motakabbir Ahmed conducted the mobile court at around 12:00 noon. The DNCC mayor also visited the basement of Wasa building and some other buildings.
After getting Aedes mosquito larvaes inside government's establishments, the DNCC Mayor Md. Atiqul Islam commented that it is very sad, very disappointing to find Aedes mosquito larvae in government institutions.

He said, "Meetings are held several times in our ministry and even Inter-ministerial meetings are also held.. All of us have said that we will keep our own institutions clean. We will do our duties. Everyone says it but in reality no one is doing their duty."
Executive Officers and Executive Magistrates of 10 Zonal areas under the DNCC have conducted simultaneous anti-Aedes mosquito larvae raids apart from Karwan Bazar on Monday.
Tk 3.40 lakh was collected in the ten Zonal areas and 11 cases were registered in the operation of Regional Executive Officers and Executive Magistrates. Besides, three regular cases were also filed during the drive.
