Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md Abdus Salam on Sunday said steps are being taken to use effective insecticides as part of efforts to strengthen mosquito control activities in the capital.

“We have already initiated the tender process for procuring new fogger machines. Overcoming the limitations of the past, the current administration is giving the highest priority to public safety and health,” he said.

The DSCC administrator made the remarks while inaugurating the newly renamed ‘Muhammadullah Hafezzi Huzur Road’ by unveiling its nameplate in the capital.

The 530-metre road stretching from Bangabazar intersection to Gulistan Golap Shah Mazar was previously known as Phoenix Road.

Highlighting public health concerns, Abdus Salam said preparations have been strengthened in advance to prevent dengue and chikungunya outbreaks.

“As Aedes mosquitoes breed in clean water, public awareness is the most important factor here. I would urge city residents to keep their homes, yards and rooftops clean so that no stagnant water remains anywhere,” he said.

Referring to the renaming of the road, the DSCC administrator said Muhammadullah Hafezzi Huzur was a renowned Islamic scholar and thinker in Bangladesh.

“This road has been named in recognition of his religious, social and political contributions,” he said, expressing hope that the ideals and contributions of Hafezzi Huzur would inspire future generations.

Abdus Salam also said the initiative was formally implemented following requests from local religious leaders and public demand, with the approval and guidance of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
