Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University (DU) Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan on Monday evening met BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan.
During the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor expressed deep condolences over the death of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, describing her as a “symbol of national unity”.
He also prayed for the salvation of her departed soul and conveyed his sympathy to Tarique Rahman and other family members.
The meeting was part of the Vice-Chancellor’s ongoing dialogue with leaders of various political parties and other key stakeholders to discuss the stability and overall environment of Dhaka University in view of the upcoming national election.
Prof Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan briefed the BNP Acting Chairman on a range of issues, including overall campus security and stability ahead of the national election, the progress of major development projects at Dhaka University, the post-DUCSU election situation, education and research activities, improvements in the University’s international rankings, and various recent measures taken for student welfare.
He also informed Tarique Rahman about various programmes undertaken by Dhaka University to commemorate former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia following her death.
The Vice-Chancellor mentioned that the stability of Dhaka University has a significant impact during national elections and sought advice and cooperation from the BNP Acting Chairman to maintain overall stability on the campus, as well as for the development of education, research and infrastructure.
In response, the BNP Acting Chairman assured all possible cooperation in the development of the university’s education and research activities, along with its infrastructural advancement.
