They made the demand from a protest rally held at the base of Anti-Terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture.
There are media reports that those Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders got enrolled on the university ahead of DU Central Students' Union (Ducsu) election without any admission or viva voce and eight of them were elected in Ducsu and hall union elections.
Speaking at the protest rally, Hasan Al Mamun, Convener of Bangladesh General Students' Rights Protection Council (BGSRPC) which led the quota reform movement last year, said, "Enrolment on DU requires an admission test. But before the Ducsu polls, VC Akhtaruzzaman along with dean Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam facilitate their participation in the election signing a piece of paper instead of intake test."
"What they have done is clearly moral degradation. We’re demanding resignation of both of them and reelection to the posts held by BCL leaders after vacating those," Mamun added.
Around 50 students of DU expressed their solidarity with the protesters.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Chhatra Union protested the role of VC and the dean and demanded exemplary punishment of those responsible for it.
Progressive Students' Alliance -- the ally of left-leaning student bodies -- brought out a torch procession on the campus demanding that 'illegal’ Ducsu be dissolved.
