Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir said Saturday that peaceful Durga Puja celebrations are underway across more than 33,000 mandaps nationwide due to collective efforts and close coordination between police and puja committees.
After inspecting security arrangements at Dhakeshwari National Temple in the capital in the evening, the police chief expressed hope that the festival would conclude smoothly with the immersion of idols.
Warning against rumors and misinformation spread by vested groups, the IGP urged the public to stay alert, adding that everyone must fight against evil forces, drawing inspiration from Goddess Durga.
"Regardless of religion, opinion, or ethnicity, this country belongs to all of us. Our goal is to build a happy, peaceful, and prosperous Bangladesh by eliminating all evil forces," IGP said.
Reflecting on the post-August 5 situation when police activities were suspended for five to seven days causing widespread anxiety and crime, the IGP said that Bangladesh Police turned around with public cooperation. He reiterated the force's commitment to upholding independence and sovereignty while eliminating discrimination.
Puja Celebration Council leaders thanked the police force for creating a security blanket over all mandaps, enabling devotees to celebrate safely. Senior police officials and community leaders were present during the visit.
