Agitated locals of Gazipur hurled eggs, shoes and brooms targeting the prison van carrying former acting mayor of Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) Asadur Rahman Kiron at Gazipur court premises on Sunday.
The incident took place at the Gazipur court premises when the former mayor of GCC was taken to the court by a prison van from Jashore jail.
Kiron, also the vice-president of Gazipur city unit Awami League, was accused in different cases including that of murder.
The agitated people also brought out a procession in the court area and the district town demanding the death penalty of the AL leader.

Judge of the Gazipur Metropolitan Magistrate court-5, Iqbal Hossain sent him to jail when he was produced before the court in the morning, said Ahsan Ullah Chowdhury, inspector of Gazipur court.
He was also shown arrested in nine cases filed with Bason, Kashimpur, Konabari and Sadar Police Stations.
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested the former GCC mayor while he was trying to flee the country through Sharsha bordering area of Jashore district on November 19.
Besides, he was also a FIR listed accused in different cases filed in Gazipur and Uttara Police Station in Dhaka during the anti-discrimination student movement.
Kiron was also elected as the ward councilor of No 43 award several times.
He took charge as GCC Mayor after the suspension of Mohammad Jahangir Alam in 2021.
Kiran also served as the acting Mayor of GCC in 2013 as the then incumbent mayor MA Mannan was in jail.
