An elderly man was killed in an elephant attack at Gomatali Notunpara village of Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban district early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Siddik Ahmmed, 95, son of Basrat Ali of the village.
Ayning Marma, chairman of Sonaichhari union parishad, said a herd of wild elephants invaded the village around 3am and vandalised several houses.
When villagers were fleeing sensing danger, an elephant swooped on Siddik and threw him away with its trunk, killing him on the spot.
A team of police, led by Khairul Wara Robin, in-charge of Sonaichhari police camp, visited the spot and recovered the body.
With this, three people were trampled to death by wild elephants in three unions of the upazila in the last three days, creating tensions among locals.
