Police arrested Chingkieu Roaza, former chairman of the Rangamati Parbatya Zila Parishad and senior vice-president of the Rangamati district Awami League, early Sunday.
Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid on his residence in the Kalindipur area of Rangamati district town in the early hours and picked him up, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station Md Jasim Uddin.
Several suspected individuals had been under surveillance as part of the ongoing special security drive “Operation Devil Hunt” to maintain law and order in the hill region, he said.
The OC said Roaza had been involved in fuelling unrest in the area, as well as carrying out organisational activities of the Awami League, whose activities are now banned.
"Our operations will continue to improve the law-and-order situation and prevent the unlawful activities," he said.
