Voicing concern over the extent of extortion, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali said extortionists must be brought to book no matter who they are.
âSteps will be taken to intensify police patrols especially in the early morning hours and vehicles such as microbuses or private cars loitering unnecessarily should be thoroughly searched,â he said.
The DMP Commissioner came up with the information while speaking at a view-exchange meeting with the officer-in-charges of 50 police stations at DMP headquarters on Monday.
He also urged the Officers-in-Charge (OCs) to ensure their presence in every alley and lane under their jurisdiction to address any emerging issues promptly.

âYou must treat victims and those seeking police services with respect. Regular briefings with subordinates at the police station are essential,â said the DMP Commissioner.
The more connections you build with people, the more information you will gather, he said.
He also instructed the OCs to register all cases requiring legal action on time and to conduct proper and prompt investigations of General Diaries (GDs).
