The accused is Mizanur Rahman, teacher of the madrasa at Gharua Union in the upazila.
Students said Mizanur had asked them to cut their hair short, which most of them did. However some steudents had not cut it as short as their teacher would have liked, apparently, as he picked out 5 such students and had a go with the scissors on their hair himself.
The students ended up with messy haircuts.
Litu Matubbar, father of a victim student, said Mizanur had no right to cut students’ hair like this himself. He added that his son’s haircut was not at all offensive.
A parents group on Tuesday morning went to the madrasa and demanded punishment of the accused teacher. The authorities have scheduled next Friday for arbitration in this connection.
Gharua Union Parishad Chairman Shafiuddin Molla said he learned about the matter but couldn’t connect with Mizanur Rahman to talk about it.
Md Shajahan, principal of the madrasa, said Mizanur suggested the students get crew cuts like members of the army but the students didn’t follow him. Later, the teacher cut their hair as a samples of that hairstyle, the principal added.
