According to the case statement, Hashem and Khayer intercepted the soil-laden pick-up van of Gias on January 17 last year and threatened to implicate him in a drug case if he did not give them Tk 5 lakh.
When Gias refused to give money, they picked him up in a microbus in the afternoon and took him to Brothers Brick Field. OC Morshed blindfolded him and demanded Tk 10 lakh from him.
When Gias refused to pay, the OC threatened him with ‘crossfire’ or extrajudicial killing.
Gias’s mother and sister pleaded with the policemen to take the Tk 100,000 they had and release him but the policemen took him to a remote area in Ballavpur village and beat him up.
OC Morshed shot Gias thrice in the right leg, leaving him critically wounded.
He was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where the doctors amputated his leg.
After seven days, Gias was sent to jail in a case filed for possessing 1,400 pieces of Yaba pills.
Gias said he has been living an inhuman life since last year which delayed the filing of the case.
