The government is set to inaugurate the long-awaited ferry service on the Banshbaria (Sitakunda)-Guptachhara-Sandwip route in Chattogram district on Monday, under the initiative of the Shipping Ministry.
A rally will be held at the Sandwip Upazila Parishad premises on this occasion.
Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus, is expected to address the event virtually as the chief guest while Adviser to the Shipping Ministry, Brigadier General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hossain, will officially inaugurate the service.
The launch of the ferry service fulfills a long-cherished dream of Sandwip residents, significantly improving their quality of life and boosting economic activities.
The new route will allow the smooth movement of all types of vehicles, including buses, trucks, tank lorries, minibuses, and private cars.

Besides, the service is expected to enhance Sandwip’s tourism sector, attracting more visitors to the island.
Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, Adviser for the ministries of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Road Transport and Bridges, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources, Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives, and Youth and Sports, Liberation War Affairs Adviser Farooq-e-Azam, Primary and Mass Education Adviser Bidhan Ranjan Roy and Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhtar will be present as special guests.
