For the fourth consecutive day on Saturday after an interval of 12 hours, the children of freedom fighters under the banner of ‘Muktijoddha Sangsad Santan Command’ put barricade at Shahbag intersection demanding to keep the 30 per cent quota reservation in government jobs.
DU Prof AKM Jamal Uddin, spokesperson of Mutijuddho Moncho, said they wouldn't leave the streets until the cabinet secretary resigns and their demands are met.
He also said they would wage indefinite blockade programmes across the country from Saturday if the government does not cancel the gazette notification that abolished freedom fighter quota on the next cabinet meeting scheduled to be held on Monday.
Meanwhile, protesters also stage token blockage programmes in Jashore, Rajshahi, Netrokona, Maymensing, Chattogram, Nilphamari, Panchagarh, Sirajganj and Rajshahi district town on Saturday.
Chattogram Muktijoddha Parishad President Engineer Pavel alleged that Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir agents staged protest in the name of quota reformation.
“They were trying to unstable the country,” he added.
Meanwhile, around two hundred protesters were defenestrating at Shahbagh intersection during filling of this report around 9:15 pm.
The government on Thursday scrapped the 46-year-old quota provision for first and second class government jobs after mass protests against ‘discriminatory quota’ for months.
