The Financial Institutions Division (FID) of the Ministry of Finance has issued instructions for appointing MDs in four state-owned specialised banks.
On Monday (October 21), the state-owned commercial bank section-1 of the FID issued instructions in this regard.
Sonali Bank Deputy Managing Director Mir Mofazzal Hossain has been made MD of Ansar-VDP Development Bank. Salma Banu, Deputy Managing Director of Bangladesh Agricultural Bank, has been made MD of Palli Sanchay Bank.
Six state-owned banks without MDs for a month
Besides, Sonali Bank Deputy Managing Director Sanchita Binte Ali has been made Bangladesh Krishi Bank MD and Bangladesh Krishi Bank Deputy Managing Director Chanu Gopal Ghosh has been recommended as Pravasi Kalyan Bank MD.
Earlier, the MDs of these banks were removed together on September 19 as part of the reforms of the banking sector.
Separate notifications were issued cancelling the appointment of managing directors of Sonali, Janata, Agrani, Rupali, Basic and BDBL. This has brought stagnation in the overall activities of the banks. Since there is no MD, the new chairmen of these banks are also unable to play a role.

On the other hand, letters have been sent to the board of directors of 6 banks to appoint new MDs and CEOs on a contractual basis in Sonali Bank, Janata Bank, Agrani Bank, Rupali Bank, Bangladesh Development Bank, and Basic Bank.
