At least five people, including three children and two elderly people, were injured in separate attacks by a rabid fox in Dhunot upazila of Bogura on Tuesday.
The injured were identified as Nurul Islam, 65, of Sadarpara, Siam, 4, and Nasima, 60, of Jingirtala, and Rohan, 7, and Riazul, 3, of Pechibari village.
The victims received treatment at Dhunot Upazila Health Complex following the attacks, which occurred at different times.
According to locals, Nurul Islam was cutting grass in his field around noon when a fox suddenly attacked and bit him.
In Jingirtala, the fox bit Siam while he was playing outside his home. When Nasima rushed to rescue the child and tried to drive the animal away, it attacked and bit her as well.
Meanwhile, Rohan and Riazul were attacked by the fox while playing near their home in Pechibari.
The victims’ relatives later took them to the health complex, where they received necessary treatment.
Dr SM Sumonul Haque, medical officer at the health complex, said sufficient rabies vaccines are available for people injured in animal attacks. “Health workers are regularly raising awareness about rabies,” he said.
He advised anyone bitten by an animal to seek medical attention without delay and take the necessary vaccines as advised by a doctor.
