At least five people were killed in separate road accidents in the district’s Sadar and Katiadi upazilas on Monday.
According to police and local sources, a truck lost control and overturned beside the road around 11am in front of Achmita George Institute High School in Katiadi on the Bhairab–Kishoreganj regional road.
At that time, a farmer named Iman Mia, 26, who was feeding grass to his cow beside the road, was crushed under the truck and died on the spot along with the animal.
Iman Mia was the son of Khalek Mia of Charipara area in Achmita union of Katiadi upazila.
In another incident around 2pm, a motorcycle lost control at Nilganj intersection in Kishoreganj town, leaving two youths critically injured.
Locals rescued them and took them to Kishoreganj 250-bed General Hospital where doctors declared schoolboy Irfan, 16, dead.
The other injured youth, Naushad, 20, later died in the afternoon while undergoing treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Irfan was the son of Forkan Mia of the Harua area of Kishoreganj town and a class 10 student of Kishoreganj High Boys School.
In a separate accident at Chouddashata area of Kishoreganj Sadar upazila, a woman was killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a CNG-run autorickshaw on the Kishoreganj–Bhairab regional road.
Later in the afternoon, a child died after being hit by a motorcycle in the Binnati area of Sadar upazila.
The identities of the woman and the child could not be known immediately.
Officer-in-Charge of Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station Mohammad Abul Kalam Bhuiyan and in-charge of Katiadi Highway Police Outpost Khurshid Alam confirmed the incidents.
