The water levels in the Jamuna and Brahmaputra rivers will keep rising in the next 48 hours(if not more) which will result in further deterioration of the flood situation in the country.

According to the latest alert of  Flood Forecasting Warning Centre (FFWC) of Bangladesh Water Development Board published on Saturday, the situation will continue to worsen  to worsen further in Kurigram, Gaibandha, Tangail, Sirajganj, Pabna, Bogura , Manikganj, Rajbari, Faridpur, Shariatpur and Chandpur districts.

According to the BFFWC forecast, the water in different rivers was flowing above their danger levels at 14 points out of 109 stations.

Of them, Dudhkumar river in Pateshwari is flowing 15 cm  above danger level while Dharla in Kurigram and Brahmaputra in Chilmari is flowing 32  and 20 cm above danger level respectively .

Besides, Jamuna is flowing 2 cm, 22 cm, 17 cm, 26 cm, 2 cm and 1 cm   respectively at Bahadurabad ,Sariakandi  Kazipur, Sirajganj, Mathura  and Aricha points.

The Jamuna River is expected to flow above its danger level at Porabari  point within the next 24 hours , the bulletin said.

Also, Atrai is flowing 34 cm above the danger level in Baghabari, Dhaleswari 35 cm above in Elasin , Padma 43 and 25 cm above in Goalunda and Sureswar respectively and Meghna 1 cm above the danger level in Chandpur.

The continuous rise in water levels in most of the rivers contributed to the deterioration in the flood situation in the country, the bulletin added.

Also, it added that The Ganges river is in a falling trend which may continue in next 48 hours, while the Padma river is in steady state, which may rise in next 24 hours.

Except the Kushiyara, major rivers in the North-Eastern part of the country are in falling trend, which may continue in the next 48 hours.

In Kurigram, the flood situation deteriorated further as the Dharla and the Brahmaputra Rivers are flowing above their danger levels.  

The Dharla was flowing 32cm above its danger level at Bridge point while the Brahmaputra 20cm beyond its red mark at Chilmari point on Saturday morning, reports the UNB Kurigram correspondent.
Some new areas have been flooded, leaving nearly 25,000 people marooned.

Besides, a vast track of crops lands, including Aman and vegetable fields, went under water.
