Dhaka, Aug 31 (UNB) - Former Vice-chancellor of Dhaka University (DU) Professor Dr AKM Siddiq died of old age complications at his own residence in Gulsan area on Friday afternoon. He was 96.
He breathed his last around 3pm.
Dr AKM Siddiq, a professor of DU physics department, served as the vice-chancellor of Dhaka University from March 21, 1983, to August 16, 1983, and as pro-vice-chancellor from August 24, 1981, to August 22, 1985.
His first namaj-e-janaza was held at Gulshan after Isha prayers.
He will be buried at his village home Manikgonj district on Saturday.
DU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman and Pro Vice-chancellor (administration) Prof Dr Muhammad Samad in a statement expressed deep shock at his death.
Meanwhile, former vice-chancellor of DU Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique also expressed profound shock at the death of Prof AKM Siddiq.
