Four people, including a woman, crossed into Bangladesh through the Dainur border in Dinajpur Sadar early Saturday and are currently stranded in the no-man's land after being intercepted by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
The four individuals, who claim to be Bangladeshi nationals, have been identified as Gani Molla, 35, son of the late Torab Molla of Panch Kamne village in Kalia upazila of Narail district; Babul Molla, 50, son of Masud Molla of Karikar Para in Khulna Sadar; his wife Sukhi Molla, 35; and their 15-year-old son Mohammad Jihad Molla.
Local residents said the group originally consisted of around 10 to 15 people. However, the others reportedly returned to India after sensing the situation.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Arif-Uz-Zaman Arif, commanding officer of BGB-29 Battalion, said the incident was not a push-in.
"Four people crossed the border at around 5:45am. They could not enter Bangladesh by evading BGB patrols and are now stranded in the zero line between the two countries," he said.
The BGB has not yet been able to verify the nationality of the four individuals, the official added.
