IU English department organised the programme at the gallery of the university’s Rabindra-Nazrul arts building in the morning.
IU Vice-Chancellor Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari, also a Professor of the department, addressed the programme as the chief guest while Pro-VC Professor M Shahinoor Rahman, treasurer Professor M Selim Toha and social science faculty dean Professor Nasim Banu spoke as special guests.
The department’s chairperson Professor Salma Sultana was in the chair.
Around a hundred newly-enrolled students took part in the programme.
IU VC Askari said: “If you had a language of your own, it’d be the sharpest weapon to explore the hidden talents within you.”
IU English department professors M Maher Ali, M Mamunur Rahman, Shahadat Hossain Azad and Associate Professor Prodip Kumar Adhikari, among others, were present on the occasion.
