Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested a fugitive war crimes suspect in Sadar upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
77-year-old Abdus Shukkur hails from Gulguliapara under Maheshkhali upazila of Cox’ Bazar.
According to a media release of the RAB-7 issued on Wednesday, the elite force arrested him from Rumaniyachhara area under the Sadar upazila of the district on Monday.

International Crimes Tribunal-2 issued an arrest warrant against him on May 21, 2015. Earlier the investigation agency of the tribunal submitted its report against him.
He remained absconding for eight years and used pseudonyms to dodge the eyes of the law enforcement agencies, it reads.

Shukkur was involved in killing, abduction, detention, torture and looting in Maheshkhali, Kutubdia and Pekua upazilas of the district during the 1971 Liberation War of the country, according the release.
