The interim government has approved a grant of Tk 150 crore for the treatment of 15,000 students and citizens injured during the July mass uprising.

This fund will be allocated from the budget of the current fiscal year (2024-25), as confirmed in a recent letter from the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.

The letter, sent on Wednesday from the Ministry’s Deputy Secretary to the Chief Accounts and Finance Officer, details the allocation.

According to the letter, the government has approved the release of funds under the category “Unexpected Expenditure Management” in the budget for the fiscal year 2024-25. The specific allocation is Tk 232.6 crore, which will be divided for the treatment of the injured and support for the families of the martyrs of the July Uprising.

The treatment fund will be distributed as follows:

Category A: 1,000 individuals, each receiving Tk 2 lakh, totaling Tk 20 crore.

Category B: 3,000 individuals, each receiving Tk 1 lakh, totaling Tk 30 crore.

Category C: 4,000 individuals, each receiving Tk 1 lakh, totaling Tk 40 crore.

Category D: 7,000 individuals, each receiving Tk 50,000, totaling Tk 35 crore.

Additionally, Tk 25 crore will be allocated for medical consultation services both domestically and abroad for the injured.

For the families of the martyrs, the government will purchase monthly profit-based savings certificates worth Tk 10 lakh for each family, which will be redeemable at maturity.

The letter also directs that all financial regulations and protocols be strictly followed in the allocation and expenditure of this grant. To ensure transparency in the use of these funds, a policy will be issued regarding the distribution and usage of the financial resources allocated for the treatment of the injured and support for the martyr families.
