The government on Thursday decided to restore observance of 7 November as ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’, and the day will be a public holiday.
The decision was announced by Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani at a briefing at the Secretariat after a Cabinet meeting.
He said, “It has been decided that 7 November will be declared as National Revolution and Solidarity Day as it was before. It will be a public holiday, as it used to be.”
It will be observed as a Category “Ka” day, Nasimul Gani said the day had not been observed in this manner for the past 16 years.
He also announced that 6 July has been declared as ‘National Rural Development Day’, classified as a ‘Category B’ observance, meaning there will be no public holiday, only observance.
The Cabinet meeting also discussed renewable energy policy issues, including the `Renewable Energy Policy-2025’ and investment facilitation in the sector.
According to the government plan, Bangladesh aims to generate 10,000 megawatts of electricity from solar power by 2030.
The Cabinet Secretary said the target will be implemented using government land, with private sector participation encouraged for large-scale projects.
He added that a committee will be formed to streamline policy implementation and attract investment, which is expected to begin work soon.
Nasimul Gani also said the focus is shifting toward large land-based solar projects due to limitations in rooftop solar initiatives.
