The government has formed a seven-member cell under the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to speed up the implementation of programmes promised and expected by Members of Parliament (MPs).
The decision was announced on Friday through a notification issued by the PMO and will come into effect immediately.
According to the notification, the cell has been formed to ensure quick and effective implementation of the promised programmes, strengthen inter-ministerial coordination, and ensure transparency and accountability.

The Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance and Planning will serve as the chairman of the cell, while the Prime Minister’s Protocol Officer-1 will act as the member secretary.
Other members include the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, the Prime Minister’s Private Secretary-2, the director concerned at the PMO, the Prime Minister’s Assignment Officer-1, and the Prime Minister’s Research Officer.
The notification outlined several responsibilities of the cell.
It said the cell will receive and compile demand letters related to MPs’ promised and expected programmes and preserve them in a database.
It will also conduct preliminary scrutiny of the proposed programmes, assess their relevance and feasibility, determine priorities considering public interest, and send recommendations to the relevant ministries, divisions or offices for implementation.
The cell will coordinate closely with relevant ministries, divisions or offices to ensure proper implementation of approved projects at the field level, provide necessary directions, and monitor and review the progress of implementation activities.
It will also inform the authorities time to time of its overall activities and the progress of programme implementation.
The notification also said, if necessary, an appropriate number of representatives or manpower from the relevant ministries, divisions or offices may be co-opted or attached to provide technical and administrative support for the cell’s activities.
