The government is investigating the allocation of Tk 20 crore for hotel rent and food of medical professionals at Dhaka Medical College.
The matter came into light after Deputy Opposition Leader GM Quader raised the issue at the general discussion on the proposed national budget for 2020-21 fiscal year in Parliament on Monday.
Quader voiced doubts about misuse of public money noting that doctors and health workers of Dhaka Medical College spent Tk 20 crore on food and hotel rent.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the cost seems to be slightly unusual.
“We’re investigating it as to why it is so unusual. We’ll take action if any irregularity occurred there,” she said.
Meanwhile, the health authorities on Monday said the number of confirmed coronavirus cases soared to 141,801 in Bangladesh with 1,783 people dying of Covid-19 since March 18.
