Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Wednesday said the government has taken an initiative to hand over around 200 unused buildings under the Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Ministry in urban areas to the Health Ministry.
“These buildings will be converted into facilities suitable for maternal, child and women’s healthcare within the next two months,” he said.
The Prime Minister made the remarks while replying to a supplementary question from ruling party MP Md Showkatul Islam (Moulvibazar-2) during the parliament session in the afternoon.

The lawmaker wanted to know whether unused buildings in urban areas could be brought under the health sector to improve services.
In reply, the Prime Minister said many buildings under the LGRD Ministry in cities remained unused, including structures having five to eight storeys.
“The government has recently taken an initiative to hand over these buildings to the Health Ministry,” he said.
Tarique Rahman also said the handover process of the buildings will be completed within this month.
