The government has decided to procure additional two lakh tonnes of Aman rice during the Aman season.
Of the latest procurement, 1.5 lakh tonnes will be boiled rice while the rest 50,000 tonnes will be Atap rice, said a PID handout issued on Tuesday.
Additional allocation will be provided only in favor of the mills that earlier signed agreement in the current Aman procurement season 2023-24.
The Food Ministry has been asked to complete the drive by February next year, it said.
On October 8, the government set a target to procure 7 lakh metric tonnes of paddy and rice from the marginal farmers across the country in the ongoing Aman season.
Under the programme, two lakh MTS paddy, 4 lakh tonnes boiled and the rest one lakh tonnes Atap rice will be procured at a cost of Tk 30, Tk 44 and Tk 43 per kg respectively.
