People affected by river erosion are the responsibility of the Water Resources Ministry, State Minister Zahid Faruk said Friday.
“The government has plans to address the issue of Kangsa River. Works will start before the next monsoon,” he said while visiting erosion-hit area in Netrokona’s Tantibazar under Barhatta Upazila.
Local parliamentarian and State Minister for Livestock and Fisheries Md Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru, Bangladesh Water Development Board’s Additional Director General (Planning) AM Aminul Hoque, Executive Engineer Akhter, Upazila Chairman Mohammad Mainul, among others, were present, according to a PID handout.
The government has projects worth about Tk 90 crore to prevent erosion and protect the river banks. Implementation of the projects will protect the people and corps of this region during natural calamities.
