“We’ve identified at least two fugitive killers of Bangabandhu who are living abroad. We desire to bring them back home during the Mujib Year,” he said adding that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already proved that no-one is above law.
The Foreign Minister was addressing a discussion marking the Victory Day arranged by Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Kendriya Command Council election preparatory body at the Jatiya Press Club.
Earlier, Sheikh Hasina announced that March 2020 to March 2021 would be observed as “Mujib Borsho” across the country to mark the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Two convicted killers of Bangabandhu -- Noor Chowdhury and Rashed Chowdhury -- are living in Canada and the USA respectively, according to government sources.
“We’re continuing our efforts to bring them (killers) back,” said the Foreign Minister.
Dr Momen said he also urged the Bangladeshis living abroad to demonstrate once in a month in front of the killers’ residence and encouraged them to say - “killers, you return to home” - making their lives there miserable.
He also said the government has also identified two fugitive infamous war criminals who are living in the USA and the UK and responsible for the killing of the country’s intellectuals during the glorious War of Liberation.
In 2013, The International Crimes Tribunal sentenced Chowdhury Mueen Uddin and Ashrafuzzaman Khan to death as they planned and executed the killings of hundreds of intellectuals during the Liberation War in 1971.
The Foreign Minister said Sheikh Hasina has established the rule of law in the country. “There’s no alternative to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”
He said Bangabandhu’s dream Sonar Bangla will be achieved under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The Foreign Minister said the Prime Minister united the Awami League soon after her return to Bangladesh and established the spirit of Liberation War across the country.
He described Bangladesh’s steady economic growth over the last 10 years with much progress in various sectors, including poverty reduction.
The Foreign Minister said Bangladesh has already advanced much ahead of Pakistan saying it gives him good feelings when he sees Pakistani people urge their Prime Minister Imran Khan to advance Pakistan even close to Bangladesh position in next 10 years.
The organisers congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on her re-election as the president of Awami League.
Freedom Fighter Abdul Haye presided over the discussion.
