State Minister for Public Administration and Food Md Abdul Bari on Saturday said the government is working to restore strength and proficiency to the fragile administration it inherited from the previous government by appointing honest, efficient and talented officials.

He made the remarks while talking to reporters after attending a reception for students who secured GPA-5 in this year's SSC and equivalent examinations at the Harimohan Government High School ground in Chapainawabganj town.

The state minister also blamed the previous two governments for the ongoing power crisis.

Abdul Bari said the government inherited a fragile administration after assuming office.

“Honest, efficient and talented officials are being appointed in all sectors, including the field administration. The administration has already become functional, and it will become stronger in the future,” he said.

He said the salaries of government officials had already been almost doubled to improve their financial condition.

Referring to the power crisis, the state minister said it was caused by wrong decisions taken by previous governments.

“Many power plants were built, but their fuel sources were not secured,” he said.

He also alleged that due to corruption and embezzlement during previous governments, electricity generated by the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant could not yet be brought into the national grid.

The present government has taken various initiatives to import the necessary fuel for power plants, he said, adding that the fuel crisis would be resolved soon.

Earlier in the morning, Abdul Bari arrived in Chapainawabganj and inaugurated a cleanliness campaign at the Deputy Commissioner's office premises to prevent dengue.

Later, he attended a meeting at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner.
