Awami League lawmaker Haji Salim, serving jail term for graft, was paroled for a few hours to attend his elder brother Haji Kayes’s janaza and burial on Friday.
The Home Ministry granted the parole to Haji Salim for five and a half hours.
Around 4 pm Salim walked out from the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital (BSMMU), where he has been staying under the watch of prison authorities since May 23, said Mahabub Islam, jailer of Dhaka Central Jail (Keraniganj).

Haji Kayes, 72, died this morning at his residence in the city’s Shyamoli.
On May 22, Salim was sent to jail in this case by a Dhaka court following his surrender.
After spending a night in jail, he was admitted to BSMMU the following day.
Salim, who was sentenced to 10 years in jail in the graft case, went to Bangkok for treatment on May 2 and returned home on May 5.

On February 10, the full text of the High Court’s order was published upholding his 10-year imprisonment.
The HC had earlier asked him to surrender before the trial court within 30 days of getting the order and also directed the trial court to cancel the bail order of the MP and issue an arrest warrant against him "if he does not surrender within the given time".
