The United States came up with its Bangladesh-specific visa policy as a result of the BNP's destructive politics, including obstructing and boycotting elections, according to Awami League Joint Secretary General and Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud.

The minister said this while exchanging views with journalists on contemporary issues at the secretariat on Tuesday afternoon in response to the BNP secretary general's statement that the new US visa policy is due to the Awami League government.

“The BNP's internal problems started with the announcement of the new visa policy, since the US explicitly rejected (BNP’s) caretaker government. As a result, Mirza Fakhrul is now trying to get comfortable by stating different things at different times,” said Hasan.

"Ultimately they (BNP) have to participate in the next election. It is no longer possible for them to do politics of resisting elections. Therefore, I would request them to take part in the next elections instead of planning to create a ruckus in the country,” added the minister.

Responding to journalists' remarks that BNP and Jamaat are becoming one again and that Jamaat has announced a program on June 10, the broadcasting minister said, "BNP-Jamaat have always been one. They have never been separated, sometimes adopting silence.”
