Natore, Aug 29 (UNB) – The High Court on Thursday issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain within four weeks why it should not be directed to compensate Tk 10 lakh to a trader whose 35100 eggs were destroyed by law enforcers in Baraigram upazila on May 16.
A bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader issued the rule responding to a writ petition filed by the egg trader Biplob Kumar Saha.
The rule also sought answers from the home secretary and Bogura Zone SP of Highway Police as to why seven police officials who were involved in destroying the eggs should not be punished.
On May 16, a pickup van carrying eggs fell in an accident and turned over beside the highway in Agran Sutirpar area of Baraigram upazila. The driver sought help from police to save his wares but they demanded bribes in return. When the trader refused, the policemen made things worse by destroying all the eggs.
