Several hours of heavy rains triggered widespread waterlogging in different parts of Mymensingh city on Wednesday, causing severe inconvenience for residents and disrupting normal activities.
Following nearly eight and a half hours of continuous rain from the early hours, water accumulated on major roads and in low-lying areas, inundating hospitals, educational institutions, markets and residential neighbourhoods.
Office-goers, students, traders and pedestrians faced significant hardship as many roads became difficult to navigate.
The worst-affected areas included Sankipara, Akua, Golkibari, Balashpur, Charpara, Khagdahar, Ganginarpar, Natun Bazar, Zila School intersection and Keawatkhali, where roads and lanes remained submerged.
Water also entered many homes in low-lying neighbourhoods, adding to the suffering of residents.
Anwar Hossain, in-charge of the Mymensingh Meteorological Office, said 174 millimetres of rainfall was recorded between 1:00am and 9:00am which was the highest rainfall recorded in the district so far this year.
The heavy downpour caused extensive waterlogging across the city, he said.
