The district administration opened 19 shelters in the city and and urged vulnerable people to go there.
Md Elias Hossain, deputy commissioner of Chattogram, said to tackle any possible disaster due to the incessant downpour, they are conducting awareness campaigns on loudspeakers at the 17 risky points of the metropolitan area in addition to CDA link road area.
“A total of 19 shelters have been set up in Chandgaon, Bakalia, Agrabad and Kattli Circle areas so that residents of the risky hills could be accommodated maintaining social distance,” he added.
Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioners (Lands) of the six Circles under Chattogram Metropolitan area made arrangements for more shelters in collaboration with the local councilors to avoid losses of lives and property from any possible disaster.
Besides, instructions are being given on the loudspeakers from the local mosques.
While visiting different areas this afternoon, the UNB correspondent found that staffers of land offices and local volunteers were evacuating people from the 17 risky hills in the city.
Most of the evacuees were seen to take shelter in their relatives’ residences.
