The Honorary Consul of the Republic of Malta, Shoeb Chowdhury, called on Charles Whiteley, ambassador of European Union (EU) delegation to Bangladesh, on Wednesday.
Shoeb and Whiteley exchanged views about different issues, including the importance of freedom of expression, upholding human rights, good governance, and the economic challenges the world is facing at present, according to a media release.

The European Union is a development partner of Bangladesh, and the EU will always stand by Bangladesh for the country’s further socio-economic advancement, said Whiteley.
The EU ambassador spoke very high of the economic progress Bangladesh has made over the last several years. He expressed hope that the existing friendly ties between Bangladesh and the EU will become more consolidated in days to come, the release said.

Shoeb and Whiteley at the time also shared their ideas about the upcoming 12th parliamentary election in Bangladesh. Smooth and impartial elections are vital to sustaining democracy, as they both said during the meeting.
Whiteley commented that the people of Bangladesh will decide the execution of the polls in a free and fair way based on their own judgement, said the release.
