Prof Dr Lafifa Jamal of DU Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering department and daughter of late Hossain Jamal handed over Tk 10 lakh to DU Treasurer Prof Dr Md Kamal Uddin at the vice-chancellor’s office on Wednesday for the fund.
DU VC Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, Art Faculty Dean Prof Dr Abu Md Delwar Hossain, Chairman of Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering department Dr Shamim Ahmed Deowan, late Hossain Jamal’s wife Meena Hossain and acting DU Registrar Md Enamuzzaman were present on the occasion.
Every year one meritorious student who will secure highest CGPA in BA/BSS (Honours) examinations of Islamic History & Culture, Political Science and Economics departments will receive the “Hossain Jamal Memorial Gold Medal”.
Hossain Jamal was a former student of DU who was born on October 25, 1945 in Narayanganj. He completed his Honors and Master’s degrees from the Islamic History & Culture department of DU.
He died on September 7, 1976 at the age of only 31.
