Leaders of Minimum Wage and Labour Law Implementation Sangram Parishad for hotel and restaurant workers on Monday warned that hotel and restaurant employees would go on strike on January 14 if the government-declared minimum wage is not enforced by January 13.
Akteruzzaman Khan, convenor of the Sangram Parishad, issued the strike threat at a press conference held at the Jatiya Press Club.
The government had announced a minimum wage of Tk 13,050 for hotel and restaurant workers on May 5.
Despite the gazette notification, most hotels and restaurants across the country have yet to implement it, they said.

The workers also demanded immediate enforcement of the government-declared minimum wage, issuance of appointment letters and identity cards, ensuring an eight-hour working day, fair payment for overtime, and proper implementation of weekly holidays and other legal benefits guaranteed under labour laws.
As part of their central programme, the workers held demonstrations on Sunday  demanding full enforcement of labour laws in the sector.
Protest marches and rallies were held in various in Dhaka and other parts of the country.
