A housewife was brutally tortured allegedly by her husband over a trifling matter at Srikreshtapur Schoolpara in Akkelpur municipality area in Joypurhat on Wednesday.
The victim is Khadiza Khatun, 21, wife of Shakil Hossain of the area.
Quoting the victim, police said Shakil used to torture Khadiza since their marriage three years ago.
On Wednesday night, Shakil, a mason by profession, started beating Khadiza mercilessly saying that her cooking was not good on that day.
At one stage, Shakil tied his wife to a litchi tree at the courtyard of their house and burnt the cheeks, legs and hands with a hot iron rod in front of the in-laws, said Abu Obaiyed, officer-in-charge of Akkelpur Police Station.
Hearing screams of the victim, local people rushed there and rescued the woman.
She was taken to Akkelpur upazila Health Complex.
A case was filed in this connection. Police arrested Shakil and his brother Aslam Hossain on Thursday.
