The victims were identified as Sharif, 32, and his wife Farida, 26.
The incident took place on the ground floor of the three-storied building owned by one Mufti Nazrul Islam of Kaimpur of Fatulla early in the morning.
Local people informed that the victim family were tenants in the building. The owner of the house Mufti Nazrul Islam owned a madrasah on the 1st and 2nd floors and in the tin-shed room on the roof.
Locals alleged that hearing a big bang people nearby came forward to know about the incident. However, the manager of the house Abdul Wahab Mia didn’t allow anyone to enter.
Later hearing screams of the victims, the people stormed into the building, rescued them and sent them to local hospital. Afterwards, they were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital Burn Unit.
Meanwhile, other tenants of the building complained that the manager of the building didn’t take any measure despite being informed about the gas leakage.
Regarding the incident Abdul Wahab Mia, the manager of the building, said “The burn incident is nothing big. Local people are creating hue and cry. I am going to hospital and I will give detail later.”
Aslam Hossain, Officer-in-Charge of Fatulla Model Police Station, informed that on information police was sent to the spot.
“It is preliminarily presumed that there might be leakage of gas in the oven’s pipe. The gas deposited after it came out from the leakage throughout the night. The gas explosion might have taken place when the oven was opened for cooking in the morning,” he said.
He also informed that it is being looked into whether the owner of the house had any negligence in connection with the incident. If negligence of the owner is found, then legal actions will be taken against him.
